2010 Hofmarschall

Mr. & Mrs. Leo and Lora Lou Eckerle

Chosen to celebrate this year’s “Partnerschaft” as the 32nd annual Strassenfest Hoffmarschalls are Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Lora Lou Eckerle.

As members of the German Club, Leo and Lora Lou have been described as “tireless workers.” They are truly givers of their time, talent, and sweat, while asking nothing in return. No job is ever too large or too small. They take great pride in their German Heritage, the Strassenfest, the Deutscherverein, and the Jasper Community. Any time volunteers are need, they are ready to pitch in. Every year when the German Club booth is erected they take the lead and keep everyone focused.

Leo and Lora Lou are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and have spent years volunteering for community services such as nursing home and veterans projects. Leo spent many years working as a skilled craftsman in carpentry, and is also a military veteran who fought in Korea. The couple is also a past recipient of the German Heritage Award.

Mr. and Mrs. Eckerle live a great example of the German traits of pride in family, pride in property, and pride in craftsmanship. Jasper is lucky to have such a dedicated couple to promote our German heritage. The City of Jasper and the Strassenfest Committee are honored to have them represent our community at this year’s fest.

The Committee chose this theme of “Partnerschaft” to highlight the 30th anniversary of the Jasper Deutscherverein German Club as well as the 25th anniversary of Jasper’s sister city partnership with Pfaffenweiler, Germany.
