Meet the Hofmarschall

Jim Peter

Jim Peter grew up in rural Perry County and has had a lifelong connection to the land. His first job was hauling hay on his great uncle's farm. He attended Purdue University and graduated in 1975 with a B.S.F. degree in Forest Production. He completed his Masters Degree in Extension Education, also from Purdue, in 1983. Jim has been an Extension Educator in Dubois County for 32 years.

Dubois County is the most livestock dense county in Indiana. Jim is recognized for working with farmers, coworkers, agribusiness and local government in dealing with environmental issues and regulations. In addition to working in other areas of the farm community, Jim assists local homeowners with questions on yard, garden and tree topics. He serves as chairman of the Dubois County Area Development Corporation's Board of Directors working to promote economic and community development in Dubois County. He also is currently serving as state president of the Indiana Extension Educators Association.

Jim and his wife of 29 years, Paula, have two children. Joshua is a 2004 Purdue graduate in Mechanical Engineering, employed as a product development engineer in West Virginia. Jessica is a 2007 graduate of DePauw University majoring in Theater and Communications. She will be joining an Americorp national service team in the fall.
